Georgia’s Border Police arrested a group of three individuals for attempting to cross the border while bypassing the Sarpi customs checkpoint in the south-west of the country, the body announced on Friday.
Three citizens of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia were arrested during the attempt to illegally cross the boundary from Türkiye.
The Border Police said the offenders were set to face up to five years in prison.
Georgian Border Police arrested two Azerbaijani citizens and seized a package of heroin they were attempting to smuggle across the state boundary, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Monday.
Police have arrested one more individual in connection with the illegal crossing of the national border by former President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili.
Georgia’s border police have detained six foreign citizens for illegal crossing the country’s state border. The Interior Ministry did not identify the detainees but announced two were citizens of Turkey and the remaining four were from Uzbekistan.
The Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on Saturday arrested two individuals for an attempt of illegal crossing of the state border through the Kartsakhi customs checkpoint in the south of the country.
