La Repubblica, a leading Italian newspaper, highlighted the performance of Napoli’s Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in a new article this week by saying Georgian football had “suddenly grown”, with the national team moving from being listed 150th in FIFA rankings to the current 78th due to Georgian player’s performance.
In a country that won 10 Olympic gold medals in weightlifting, judo and wrestling, Kvara is like a symphony filling an empty room. Someone put his goals and his dribbling into music. A waltz, a light breath that doesn't even blow out a candle, it's so delicate. But also a wind, the Kvara wind, which blows over a distant volcano-shaped stadium”, the author of the article said in describing the midfielder’s meteoric rise and his performances.
The article also reviewed memories and testimonies of those who followed Kvaratskhelia in his promotion from Dinamo Tbilisi Academy to the club’s first team in a country “that is experiencing a football spring”.

In his comments, club President Roman Pipia remembered the young player joining the Academy in 2012.
Kvara was great at dribbling, but also very strong physically. This is thanks to our Academy: good training, good nutrition, good environment. At 16, he scored his first goal against Shukura Kobuleti. There is usually a psychological leap when one starts playing in a big club. When a child overcomes this barrier, he can play freely”, Pipia said.
The author of the article also noted that “if Napoli wins the Italian championship, even in Georgia, in this remote corner of the world, there will be celebrations” thanks to Kvaratskhelia’s impact in the outcome.
