Georgian wrestler Tato Grigalashvili claimed a gold medal at the 2022 Judo World Masters competition in Jerusalem on Wednesday.
The European and World champion claimed his second Masters title in the 81 kg category after defeating his Azerbaijani rival Saeid Mollaei.
It was a really fantastic year for me. […] I’m very happy because this year I got the highest results in the European, World and Masters championships. Thank you very much for supporting me”, Grigalashvili said to fans in comments following the victory.
Grigalashvili was named the best male athlete at the Doha World Judo Masters in 2021, where the young wrestler earned his gold medal against Dutch rival Frank De Wit in the 81 kg category.
The 22 year-old Georgian also claimed gold at the Zagreb Grand Prix in Croatia last year and took first place at this year’s World Judo Championship in Tashkent.
Grigalashvili was named the Best Athlete of 2022 by the Georgian National Olympic Committee on Wednesday.
