Georgia’s eight-year-old chess champion Giorgi Tsulaia on Friday won six out of six games at the 15th International Chess Festival in the country’s Black Sea port city of Poti.
The ongoing festival - also bearing the name Nana Aleksandria Cup - launched on July 15, with 10 tournaments hosting over 400 players from nine countries in the event.
The Georgian Chess Federation said the tournament, with its prize fund of ₾45,000 (about $15,000), was being held for the first time after the a break forced by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The tournament has nine rounds and is held in the Swiss-system format, a non-elimination format that features a fixed number of rounds.
