Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and his Uzbek counterpart Abdulla Aripov on Tuesday discussed cooperation between the two countries in Tashkent.
In the meeting held as part of Garibashvili’s visit to Uzbekistan, the parties focused on relations in the field of economy, emphasising the prospects of deepening multilateral cooperation.
Officials highlighted the increased tourist flows from Georgia over the recent years, as well as the developing economic relations, the Government Administration said.

Garibashvili noted Georgia was a part of regional projects of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the construction and reconstruction of the East-West highway and the Black Sea-Caspian Sea transport route, as part of efforts to bolster the country’s role in regional logistics.
The two officials also noted the 18.5% increase in bilateral trade turnover last year, with the figure reaching $115 million. Georgia’s interest in further increasing export volumes of Georgian wines and mineral waters to Uzbekistan were also highlighted.
They also discussed creation of joint ventures, emphasising the possibility of using Georgia's transport infrastructure and ports for Uzbekistan for delivering products to the European market.

Garibashvili stressed the importance of his first official visit to Uzbekistan, expressing “sincere gratitude” to his counterpart for a “warm welcome and hospitality”. He also said the two countries had “a lot of potential” to cooperate and would be able to further develop relations.
On his part, Aripov called the visit of the Georgian PM an “important event” in the relations, noting the latter’s “effective measures” for developing Georgia’s national economy.
