Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and President Salome Zourabichvili on Friday expressed their condolences to Japan after Shinzo Abe, the country’s former Prime Minister, was shot in the city of Nara while campaigning and died shortly after.
The head of the Georgian Government described the killing as an “unspeakable tragedy”, stressing Abe had been an “exceptional” leader of Japan.

In her comments, the Georgian President stressed “all of Georgia” was “shocked” over the matter and noted Abe had been a “friend of Georgia” and a “powerful international figure”.

Abe, the longest-serving leader of modern Japan, was shot on Friday while campaigning for parliamentary elections, shocking a country where political violence has become a rare occurrence.
