Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday expressed his “deep sadness” following reports of an attack on Shinzo Abe, Japan's former Prime Minister.
Abe was reported to have been shot while campaigning for Parliamentary elections in Japan’s west, and is in critical condition in a hospital.
“ Our thoughts & prayers are with him and his family. Georgia stands with the people of Japan”, Garibashvili tweeted.

Abe, 67, was shot in the left side of his chest and in the neck, local TBS Television said. Japanese police said a 41-year-old man suspected of carrying out the shooting had been arrested.
