The Georgian team returned home from the Invictus Games competition with six medals on their score, marking another successful appearance at the international competition for injured former service personnel of armed forces from around the world.
Returning to Georgia on Monday, the 20 athletes of the Georgian team were welcomed by David Chichinadze, the Deputy Minister of Defence of Georgia, and Joni Tatunashvili, the Deputy Commander of the Georgian Defence Forces, at the Tbilisi International Airport.
Aleksi Beruashvili claimed two gold medals at the games after competing in 200 and 1,500-metre jogging. He also scored a silver in the 100-metre race in the competition, while the Georgian team earned a team bronze in the sitting volleyball competition.
The same honour was claimed by Ahmed Safarov in the 100-metre wheelchair race, and by Murtaz Osepaishvili and Onise Jugheli in the Land Rover Challenge.
The Georgian competitors participated in sports including sitting volleyball, archery, swimming, weightlifting, para-basketball, athletics and rowing in the event hosted in the Hague between April 16-22.
Held in various countries since 2014 under the patronage of the Duke of Sussex, and with involvement of 500 competitors, Invictus Games has involved Georgian teams four times since the establishment of the tournament. Squads from the country have won bronze and silver medals in various sports at the event to date.
