Current fleet of Tbilisi yellow minibuses to be replaced this year

Current fleet of yellow minibuses (marshrutkas) in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi will be fully replaced with new minibuses by the end of 2021, announces Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.

In addition Tbilisi City Hall has reduced the number of minibuses operating in Tbilisi from 3,000 to only 1,000; Kaladze says that the rest of the routes will be served by eight-meter buses.

The negotiations with the Tbilisi Minibus Company [which has been operating a yellow minibus fleet in Tbilisi since 2011] have almost been completed. The company will attract finances to purchase 300 minibuses procured by us. In addition it will purchase another 400 minibuses", said Kaladze. 

Kaladze added that Tbilisi City Hall plans to purchase an additional 180 new eight-meter buses and 200 eighteen-meter buses as well.

Tbilisi City Hall will open the tender in the coming days, Kaladze added.
