After the full introduction of the new transport network in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi, the waiting time for public transport will be reduced to four minutes on average, while the capacity of buses increases 2.5 times, says deputy Tbilisi Mayor Irakli Khmaladze.
We have developed and are gradually introducing a new transport network, which has three levels. It consists of a fast-moving corridor connecting two routes of urban and regional importance. 12-meter and 18-meter buses will run on the fast transit corridor, while 6, 8 and 10-meter buses will run on city and regional routes. After the full implementation of this network, the waiting time will be reduced to four minutes on average, and the capacity of buses will increase 2.5 times", Khmaladze said.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said that there is still 'a serious problem' with the waiting time in the city and this happens because public transport does not yet have the proper infrastructure.
"There are cases when people have to wait half an hour, 40 minutes, even though we have grown and are increasing the number of buses and we have updated public transport. But that alone cannot be the solution. This requires proper, consistent infrastructure, which we will definitely develop", Kaladze said.
