Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has posthumously awarded former MP and leader of the People’s Party Koba Davitashvili with the medal of honour.
Davitashvili, who died aged 49 in 2020, was kidnapped and severely beaten during the opposition rally in 2007 under the United National Movement government.
On behalf of the Georgian people, today on November 7 President of Georgia once again expresses her gratitude and respect to Koba Davitashvili as a victim of November 7, 2007 [dispersal] who has sacrificed his health and life to the fight for the future of this country and justice”, President Zurabishvili’s press office said.
Reportedly the injuries Davitashvili had received in 2007 caused Bekhterev's disease which is a chronic rheumatic inflammation leading to his eventual death.

Tbilisi City Court has found former Prosecutor General of Georgia Zurab Adeishvili guilty of kidnapping and abuse of official authority in the case of former opposition leader Davitashvili.
However, Davitashvili was confident that former president Mikheil Saakashvili stood behind his assault during the 2007 anti-government rallies.
