Georgian President awards diplomatic missions in Ukraine with Medal of Honour

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili on Friday awarded the country’s diplomatic missions in Ukraine with the Medal of Honour for “high professionalism, work and loyal service” in the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of the country.
The prestigious state award was bestowed on the staff of the Embassy in Kyiv, the Consulate General in Odesa and the Honorary Consulate in Lviv.
Accepting the titles at a ceremony at the Presidential Orbeliani Palace in Tbilisi, Ambassador Giorgi Zakarashvili said the awards were a “great honour and responsibility for all of us who represent Georgia in Ukraine,” adding they “belong to each employee” of the diplomatic offices.
Zakarashvili said “from the first day” of the Russian invasion, “every representative” of the offices “showed courage and unity and did everything to help Georgian citizens” in the country.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has posthumously awarded former MP and leader of the People’s Party Koba Davitashvili with the medal of honour. Davitashvili, who died aged 49 in 2020, was kidnapped and severely beaten during the opposition rally in 2007 under the United National Movement government.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has awarded the members of the Group of Friends of Georgia to the Swiss Confederation in the federal city of Bern. Medals of Honour were awarded earlier today to Marianna Krayer, Barbara Schellewald, and Cyrill Haring for their contributions to the popularisation of Georgian culture abroad.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has awarded Georgian fashion designer and creative director of the iconic fashion house Balenciaga Demna Gvasalia with the Medal of Honour for his contribution to the popularisation of Georgia abroad. Demna Gvasalia who is from Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region was awarded the medal today when Georgia marks 28 years of losing control over its territory and the fall of Sokhumi.
