Georgia is marking Police Day today.
Georgian top officials have congratulated the country’s police officers on the day, praising their role in ensuring public safety.
The Georgian prime minister, president and interior minister have stated that the Georgian police are ‘absolutely apolitical’ and that Georgian policemen are ‘heroes and high class professionals.’
PM Irakli Garibashvili stated that ‘unfortunately, some anti-state forces try to deliberately discredit the police, which is unacceptable.’
The government will not tolerate any such attempt,” Garibashvili said.
He stated that many policemen have died heroically for the country and its citizens.
I express my deep gratitude to the deceased policemen and their families,” Garibashvili said.
He stated that the government should take further steps to ensure additional social and other benefits for Georgian policemen and their families.
President Salome Zurabishvili stated that respect for police is equal to respect for statehood.
She awarded three female police officers for their efforts to combat domestic violence.
Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri repeated that the Georgian police is unbiased and focused only on state interests.
