Three members of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party at Tbilisi City Assembly have been charged with group violence against United National Movement opposition member Levan Khabesihvili for an incident during the City Assembly session on January 24.

The charged members of the ruling party are Aleksandre Khujadze, Avtandil Tsintsadze and Tarash Shurgaia.

Khebesihvili received an eye injury during the clash.

The video was released by TV Pirveli.

Media recordings reveal an initial verbal dispute, with ruling party members calling on Khabeishvili 'to choose words and speak correctly.’ In the video Khabeishvili continues to speak and smiles, when one of the ruling party members slap him on the back of the head a clash takes place.

The ruling party members stated that those who attacked Khabeishvili were irritated by his [Khabeishvili’s] previous interview with the media, where he ‘verbally insulted’ ruling party members for deceasing the salaries of cleaning service employees of Tbilisi City Assembly.

They also accused Khabeishvili of ‘staging provocations’ for several years on.

In today’s statement the Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office said that Khabeishvili has also been summoned for interrogation for attacking deputy head of Tbilisi City Assembly Irakli Zarkua on January 24.
