Head of Poti city assembly, three others sent to pretrial detention for alleged financial crimes

Head of Poti City Assembly and former mayor of the city Irakli Kakulia, two current and one former officials of the municipality have been sent to pretrial detention after being charged with financial crimes causing $178,000 damage to the state budget.

Seven others involved in the case have been released on bail.

Kakulia, former deputy mayors Levan Chochia and Nikoloz Grigolia and former head of architecture department Zurab Kurua, were detained on November 8 for taking a bribe, supporting the appropriation of state funds, making fake documents, misspending of state funds and the abuse of authority.

Kakulia does not admit to the crime.
