Georgia will wait for studies and communicate with partner organisations as Russia has registered the first coronavirus vaccine for use, claiming that the vaccine ‘gives sustainable immunity’ and is safe.

Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze says that Georgia will make a decision regarding the vaccine if its validity is approved internationally.

It is important for the validity of any medicine or a vaccine to be backed by mandatory trials. We will wait for the results of trials and make a decision after consulting with our partner organisations,” Tikaradze said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that his daughter has already been given the vaccine which was approved less than two months after small scale human tests.

Experts around the world have raised concerns about the speed of Russia's work, suggesting that researchers may have cut corners.

The World Health Organization (WHO) urged Russia last week to follow international guidelines for producing a vaccine against Covid-19.

America's leading infectious diseases expert Dr Anthony Fauci expressed doubts over the validity of the vaccine.
