People in Tbilisi will pay an hourly fee for parking starting 1 July.
Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated at a briefing today that the parking fee will be initially imposed on Kote Apkhazi (former Leselidze) and the surrounding streets.
He said that the ‘zonal parking’ mode will be totally new for Tbilisi and the parking system will allow the Tbilisi municipality to regulate traffic flow in the city.
Zonal parking was established in all developed European and overloaded cities long ago and is one of the efficient measures to put the transport system in order,” – Kaladze said.
The service fee will be differentiated according to zones.
Tbilisi Municipality will also continue working to introduce the parking method in different areas, for example, in Saburtalo district.
Mayor Kaladze said the zonal parking fee will not apply to vehicles parked near an owner’s home. Those with disabilities will be exempt from the fee.
The precise amount has not yet been announced.
The Tbilisi Transport Company staff has written 317,980 fines for irregular parking in Tbilisi and violation of certain rules between 10 April 2018 and 27 November of the same year.
