Tamar Gigauri, who fell into a well of seven meters deep in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Akhalgori on November 4, is in critical condition, states Democracy Research Institute.

“Tamar Gigauri has bruises, swelling of face and body and speech difficulties. Currently T.G. is at home”, reads the statement of the Institute.

The Institute for Democracy Research urges all authorities to do their best, including the assistance of international partners to transport the injured woman to Georgia’s controlled territory.

After the Russia-Georgia 2008 War patients from the Russian-occupied region have been transported to Tbilisi-controlled territory via the shortest, so-called Razdakhani checkpoint, with the help of the Red Cross.

However, due to the closure of the so-called border since September of the year it is impossible to use the route for medical purposes, and people living in Akhalgori are forced to wait for emergency brigades from Tskhinvali, which take longer than an hour to arrive.
