Police have detained six individuals for the purchase and possession of drugs on September 24.
Two of the detainees were arrested in Tbilisi’s Ponichala district, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.
Director of the Central Criminal Department Mamuka Chelidze said at a briefing today that police officers seized the following narcotic substances:
10 packs of heroine, 1500 pills of subutex , 207 pills of methadone , 1 pack of amphetamine, 1 pack of hashish and other types of drugs.
One of the detainees is an Iranian citizen, who was arrested for the purchase and possession of a large quantity of heroin.
The crime is punishable from eight to 20 years or life imprisonment.
As Mamuka Chelidze mentioned, one of the detainees is a South African citizen.
Police and officials of the Revenue Service arrested [an individual only identified as] L.M. at the Batumi International Airport while he was trying to smuggle 16 kg of marijuana into Georgia. The crime is punishable from 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment,” said Mamuka Chelidze.
As of January 1, 2019, 25 kg of heroine, 1 kg and grams of cocaine, 11,600 pills of subutex and suboxone, over 4,000 pills of ecstasy, 9.6 kg of psychoactive substances and 1.2 kg of psychoactive substances have been seized.
