The first preparatory course for university applicants living in the Russia-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) has begun.

The programme is being administered by the Education Ministry and Ministry of Reconciliation as part of the peace initiative ‘Step to Better Future.’

The preparatory course aims to provide students from the occupied regions an opportunity to study at universities without taking the Unified National Examinations.

“The program is designed for residents of the occupied territories, to ease their access to education...as well as to ease their enrollment at universities,” Reconciliation Minister Ketevan Tsikhelashvili said at the presentation of the project back in April.

142 applicants were registered for the course.
