PM Bakhtadze: Georgian higher education already part of EU

Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze has welcomed the membership of the Georgian National Centre for Education Quality Enhancement in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), saying that in terms of higher education, Georgia has already become a part of the EU.
The membership means that the diplomas issued by Georgian higher education institutions will be recognised in Europe,” Bakhtadze said.
He stated that supporting the education field is a key priority for the government.
Our plans to spend one-fourth of the state budget for education purposes speaks to this,” Bakhtadze said.
He stated that Georgia’s future membership of the EURAXESS, which is a unique pan-European initiative delivering information and support services to professional researchers, will also benefit the country and its youth.
In most European countries, higher education institutions or study programmes are subject to regular external review by a quality assurance agency.
EQAR is a register of such agencies, listing agencies that have demonstrated their substantial compliance with a common set of principles for quality assurance in Europe.
Through the membership of EQAR, information on Georgian higher education institutions will appear in the European registry, which will increase their awareness, trust towards them and recognition of diplomas issuance by the institutions.
