Georgia’s external trade decreased by 0.6 per cent and reached $5.96 billion in January-June 2019, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

The value of Georgian exports increased by 11.5 per cent to $1.77 billion, while the value of imports decreased by 4.9 per cent to $4.19 billion with respect to 2018, said Geostat.

In the reporting period Georgia’s trade deficit came out to $2.41 billion, which was a 40.5 per cent share of the country's total trade turnover.

Trade deficit is an economic measure of the negative balance of trade in which a country's imports exceed its exports.
