Georgia’s external trade amounted to $4.95 billion in January-May 2019, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

This was one per cent higher year-on-year.

In the reporting period the value of Georgian exports increased by 14.2% to $1.46 billion, while the value of imports decreased by 3.6% to $3.49 billion with respect to 2018, said Geostat.

Georgia’s trade deficit came out to $2.02 billion, which was a 40.8% share of the country's total trade turnover.

Trade deficit is an economic measure of the negative balance of trade in which a country's imports exceed its exports.
