The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will assist Georgian farmers living across the occupation lines near Shida Kartli and who have been affected by hail with $1 million in aid.

Mission Director of USAID in Georgia Peter Wiebler said that it will also be possible to purchase the equipment for farmers that will “ease their work in the future”.

Georgian Agriculture Minister Levan Davitashvili said support for the people living across the occupation lines is the priority for the government.

There was an emergency situation in Shida Kartli due to the strong hail [which completely damaged] the harvest… we received support from the US government as part of the project Zrda and people living in Gori and Kareli will receive financial assistance … to resume agricultural activities”, said Davitashvili.

Shida Kartli governor Giorgi Khojevanishvili said that at the end of the last month strong hail affected more than 7,000 people living in Shida Kartli villages and damaged 10,000 hectares of agricultural land.
