The US Department of Agriculture will allocate more than $10 million under the Food and Progress programme to improve food safety and quality in Georgia’s dairy and beef production chains.
The five-year programme, titled ‘Safety and Quality Investment in Livestock’ will begin tomorrow.
Land O'Lakes International Development, in partnership with the Georgian Farmers Association (GFA), Michigan State University (MSU) and the US Department of Agriculture will host a special event in Tbilisi to mark the launch of the new project.
The goals of the project are to increase agricultural productivity and expand trade among more than 54,000 direct programme participants, primarily in the East-West Highway corridor.
The project will incorporate technical assistance from Land O’Lakes International Development, leveraging the organisation’s innovative, demand-driven approach to improve food safety and quality along Georgia’s dairy and beef value chains from farm to fork.
By reducing losses and boosting productivity, the project aims to help Georgian farmers’ access additional markets for dairy and beef products.
