Award-winning Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili will open her new year in performance with a Paris concert featuring music by celebrated composer Jean Sibelius this Friday.

Batiashvili will be on stage at the Maison de la Radio venue in the French capital with Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, led by their musical director Mikko Franck.

The evening’s program will open with what will be the French premiere of Lithuanian composer Raminta Serksnyte’s work De profundis for string orchestra.

See Batiashvili and conductor Daniel Barenboim speak about their acclaimed recording of works by Sibelius and Tchaikovsky last year:

It will be followed by Sibelius' renowned 1904 Violin Concerto, the only concerto work by Finland’s best known composer.

The Friday show will conclude with Hungarian composer Bela Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra, praised by Maison de la Radio as "one of the most virtuoso pieces of the symphonic repertoire”.

Set to be broadcast live on France Musique, the Paris concert will mark the first performance of the year for Batiashvili, who received international acclaim throughout last year for live performances and recordings.

The violinist’s performance of works by Sibelius and Pyotr Tchaikovsky, recorded with Staatskapelle Berlin orchestra and pianist Daniel Barenboim, was named the finest recording of January 2017 by leading classical music review magazine Gramophone.

A recipient of two ECHO Klassik awards among other prizes, the German-based artist was also in running for the 2017 Artist of the Year award by the magazine.

Batiashvili also headlined a Tbilisi concert celebrating an anniversary of celebrated late Georgian composer Sulkhan Nasidze in Tbilisi alongside oboist Francois Leleux and cellist Maximilian Hornung in October.
