Renowned Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili is launching her new year of performances with a programme of shows at the Berliner Philharmoniker, after joining artists leading a Christmas concert attended by the German president last month.
German-based Batiashvili, whose recordings and performances have been recognised by prizes including two ECHO Klassik awards and the MIDEM Classical Award, will join the Philharmoniker orchestra led by Alan Gilbert between January 24-26.
The three-show bill will will involve performances of classical works by Sergei Prokofiev and Richard Strauss, as well as the European premiere of Metacosmos by Anna Thorvaldsdottir.
A preview for the show by the Philharmoniker venue said Prokofiev’s “thoroughly lyrical work” would be performed by Batiashvili, “one of the foremost violinists of her generation”.
For the Georgian violinist, the Berlin concert will follow an end-of-year Christmas evening at the St George Church in Eisenach in central Germany last month.
Batiashvili joined a roster of performers including soprano Annette Dasch, actor Ann-Kathrin Kramer and conductor Russell Harris in the celebration.
German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Thuringia local government officials were among the audience at the church in the region’s west.
Batiashvili will follow up the Berlin programme with performances at the Boston Symphony Hall and two venues in Tel Aviv and Haifa next month, before embarking on further dates across Europe.
