Road linking Georgia to Russia closed to traffic due to threat of avalanche

A road linking Georgia with Russia has been temporarily closed to vehicles due to forecasted avalanche threats.
All vehicles are prohibited on the Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road.
There is intensive snowfall and low temperatures in the region affected.
The Mleta-Gudauri section of the same road is open to traffic. However, drivers are not allowed to stop their vehicles.
The weather forecast also announced strong winds in eastern Georgia and level 4-5 storm on Georgia’s west, maritime coast.
Large piles of stones and mud have blocked the section of Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road, connecting Georgia with Russia.
Most Georgian roads are open for traffic. However, there are several routes remained under certain restrictions due to alleged accident threats.
From today to September 15, private vehicles will be restricted from travelling between the 134th and 135th kilometre section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi Rd between 8.30pm and 5.30am. This will be extended to all vehicles from midnight to 5.30am.
An adventure enthusiast from the Czech Republic has been rescued after injuring himself while climbing a mountain in Georgia’s Stepantsminda region.
Due to intense snow and frost, special restrictions have been imposed on roads throughout Georgia. The Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi motorway is closed to all traffic. There is a risk of avalanche, the Roads Department said.
