Heavy rains cause land-blocks on road linking Georgia and Russia

Large piles of stones and mud have blocked the section of Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road, connecting Georgia with Russia.
The 54th km section of the road is located near the village Gvrito, in the eastern mountainous part of Georgia.
About 150cubic meter of stones and lands slid down onto the road.
The road is being intensively cleaned and one way traffic has already been restored.
Patrol police is at the scene, regulating the non-stop moving of cars.
Georgia suggests alternative routes
Georgia’s Interior Ministry is offering several alternative routes for people wanting to go to Russia from Georgia but can’t as a landslide still blocks only road linking the two countries.
From today to September 15, private vehicles will be restricted from travelling between the 134th and 135th kilometre section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi Rd between 8.30pm and 5.30am. This will be extended to all vehicles from midnight to 5.30am.
