Large Korean corporation looks to invest in Georgia

Georgia has attracted the interest of a large Korean corporation SK E&C.
Georgia’s Economy Minister Dimitry Kumsishvili met the Executive Vice-President of the Korean corporation SK E&C, Seung Su Lee, in Tbilisi today.
The Ministry of Economy reports that the Korean delegation showed interest in a number of sectors of the Georgian economy.
More specifically, representatives from the Korean corporation saw potential in Georgia’s energy field and mostly in the construction of hydro power plants.
Korean officials were also interested in free trade agreements with Georgia that would enable the export of products produced in Georgia on preferential terms. Korean investors said they would study the possibility of opening an enterprise in Georgia.
Another sector the Korean businessmen focused on was Georgia’s hospitality industry.
Addressing the guests at today’s reception, Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister George Sharvashidze praised cooperation between Georgia and Korea. Minister Sharvashidze said the trade-economic relations between the two countries have been of the greatest importance in recent years.
NaelTour, one of the leading tourism agencies in South Korea, will sell travel tour packages for Georgia, announced Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
South Korea has expressed readiness to support Georgia in re-planting a recently burnt forest in the Borjomi gorge in the country’s east.
Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA) has received the Best Tourism Marketing Award at the 32nd Korea World Travel Fair.
The interest of the South Korean people in Georgia is increasing year-on-year, head of the National Assembly of South Korea Moon Hee-sang has told Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia during a meeting held in Tbilisi earlier today.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili briefed the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea Moon Hee-sang on the situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia. Zurabishvili and Hee-sang met at the presidential palace yesterday.
