Georgian judokas win 4 medals at Paris Grand Slam

Georgia has claimed its first medal at the Paris Grand Slam as the former Olympic champion Lasha Shavdatuashvili has won silver. Shavdatuashvili, 26, was competing in the men’s 73kg category.

eGeorgia has won its second gold medal at the prestigious international judo competition in Germany - Judo Grand Prix Dusseldorf 2017.

Georgia has claimed its first medal at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Georgian judoka Lasha Shavdatuashvili defeated European Champion Sagi Muki of Israel overnight in the bronze medal match.

Georgia’s national anthem has been heard several times in the Russian city of Kazan after several Georgian judoka won in their respective weight categories at the European championships this week.

Georgian judokas received two gold, one silver and two bronze medals at Tbilisi Grand Prix competition of the International Judo Federation (IJF) that is now underway in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.

The meeting was also attended by the Vice-President of European Olympic Committees Niels Nygaard, the Minister of Culture and Sport Mikheil Giorgadze and the President of Georgian Olympic Committee Leri Khabelov.

Georgian judoka Beka Gviniashvili has won the Osaka Grand Slam 2019 today, defeating his Uzbek rival Davlat Bobonov in the under 90kg category. With 481 athlets from 87 nations, the Osaka Grand Slam is held in the Japanese town of Osaka on November 22-24. 

Georgian judoka Lasha Shavdatuashvili, 29, has won silver in a lengthy nine-minute match with one of judo's top fighters, Japan’s Shohei Ono, earlier today. Shavdatuashvili, 29, is the only Georgian judoka who has won European, World and Olympic gold medals.He has won three olympic medals so far: gold at the 2012 Olympic Games, bronze in 2016 and now silver.
