January 2018: Georgia’s protected areas attract 16,475 visitors

Tbilisi National Park, Kazbegi National Park and the "Prometheus Caves” are the most popular protected areas so far in 2018.

A total of 16,475 guests visited Georgia’s protected areas in January 2018, a 46 percent hike in comparison to the same month in 2017, announces Georgia’s Agency of Protected Areas.

Half of the visitors were Georgians. The statistics show that 54 percent of visitors were Georgians and 46 percent were foreigners.

The number of Georgian visitors increased by 17 percent year-on-year, while the number of foreigner visitors increased by 94 percent.

Last month Georgia’s most visited protected areas were:

  • Tbilisi National Park – 8,430
  • Kazbegi National Park – 2,480
  • Prometheus Caves – 1,439
  • Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park – 886
  • Sataplia – 633
