Georgian police have detained one Portuguese and two Iranian citizens this week for smuggling drugs into Georgia in especially large quantities.
The Portuguese citizen, who has not been identified, was detained at Tbilisi International Airport after being caught trying to smuggle in more than three kilograms of cocaine.
He came to Georgia from Brazil,” the Interior Ministry stated.
The individual faces 8-20 years in prison or the life sentence.
Two Iranian citizens were also detained at the Tbilisi International Airport for possessing half a kilogram of heroin.
They attempted to smuggle the drug in from Iran,” the Ministry reported.
The Interior Ministry says that the Georgian police “are intolerant” of drug crimes and are in active communication with partner states to identify and arrest drug traffickers.
