Georgian government developing vocational education system

The Government of Switzerland has allocated $6 million dollars to Georgia, which will be invested in vocational education and training in agriculture and introduce and an extension system for farmers.
The four year programs will be implemented by the UNDP and supported by the ministries of Education, Science, Culture and Sport and Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
The document was signed yesterday.
To create a system of vocational education in Georgia is one of our main priorities. We believe this change will affect millions of people”, stated Deputy Education Science, Culture and Sport Minister Irina Abuladze.

The project will upgrade educational standards of the VET colleges, plan and implement the modular programmes in agriculture. Moreover, it will provide farmers with the high quality training and improve access to resources, infrastructure for the regional and local agriculture.
Vocational education is one of the top priority directions under the education reform. Vocational education will focus on international market standards. On the other hand, it will suit the needs of individual regions," Abuladze added.
The Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili announced at today’s governmental meeting that the government is taking steps to create a new model for vocation education which will be based on German, Austrian and Swiss experience in the field.
Kvirikashvili spoke about the changes which will be carried out.
In terms of general education changes include supporting teachers and their professional development, better quality books for students and development of their creative thinking, as well as introducing modern technologies in schools.
Twelve public schools in Georgia’s regions have undergone complete rehabilitation using funds from an American foreign aid agency.
The Government of Georgia is continuing to support agriculture activities and reduce risks facing local farmers by improving the agricultural insurance program. This year, 9 million GEL (about $3.77m/€3.07m*) has been allocated from the state budget for the agricultural insurance program.
The Georgian Education Ministry has announced plans regarding reforms in the vocational education field. Youth with a diploma attesting to a basic education [completing only nine grades at schools instead of 12] will be able to study school subjects in parallel with receiving a vocational education.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated today that he does not want to see only elite schools in Georgia providing high quality education. Speaking at the summerising meeting of the Georgian ediucation reform, Bakhtadze said that all Georgian schools should be able to provide quality education.
The EU and the government of Georgia have launched the second phase of the Skills4Jobs programme in Georgia that will assist 105,000 Georgians find jobs by expanding high quality vocational education, improving labour policies, and supporting entrepreneurship training, the EU in Georgia reports.
