180 new vehicles were delivered to the regional police departments in Georgia, announces the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
New vehicles will make it easier for police officers to move in difficult terrain areas, especially mountainous regions, make their operations more efficient and contribute to the protection of public order.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has set Patrol Police Reform and the implementation of new standards equipment as one of the top priorities this year.
The ministry started the first phase of renewing the auto park with more eco-friendly automobiles in February of the current year.
Following the existing international trends, police offices in Georgia will gradually move to eco-friendly automobiles, such as hybrids and electric cars.
To note, the government of Japan has already handed over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs 95 hybrid automobiles.
A new crew of public order officers will soon appear in the streets of Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi to prevent crime. 60 public order officers have already passed special training and will soon start their duties.
The areas of their operation include Shardeni, Bambis Rigi, Kote Apkhazi, Tabidze, and Vertskhli streets, also Avenue of David Agmashenebeli, as well as Europe, Vakhtang Gorgasali, Saarbrücken, and Abanotubani Squares.
The Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia stated in parliament today that infantry patrol police officers will appear at Tbilisi tourist zones from Monday to ensure the safety and order on the locations and to provide support to tourists when asked and needed.
The Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated today that providing better salaries and living conditions for police staff is becoming a priority for the government.
