The Georgian Interior Ministry says that in the last month 189 people were detained for drug-related offences, 14 of whom are drug dealers.
In a special briefing on Friday the ministry spokesperson said that four Iranian citizens have been detained at Tbilisi International Airport and at the Georgia-Azerbaijan border with large quantities of heroin. They have been charged with illegal possession and transit of drugs in especially large quantities.
- One Iranian citizen was detained in Tbilisi with 21 gr of heroin and 105 pills of different drugs.
- Four individuals were detained in the Kvemo Kartli region of eastern Georgia, who had nine packages of heroin and a firearm.
- Two men were detained in the Adjara region of western Georgia for the possession and sale of drugs in especially large quantities. They face 8-20 years in prison or a life sentence. They had 232 pills of subutex and eight packages of heroin.
- One individual was detained in Batumi in western Georgia for the purchase and possession of drugs in especially large quantities. He also faces 8-20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
The Interior Ministry says they continue the “zero-tolerance fight” against drug crimes.
