Georgia, Armenia agree to intensify relations

Georgia and Armenia have agreed to strengthen their business, transport, IT, tourism, cultural and people to people ties.

Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze began a two-day official visit to Yerevan yesterday to meet with Armenian officials and discuss bilateral relations.

Janelidze met with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan and Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian.

The sides discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation, highlighting the importance of further deepening economic relations, including in the fields of energy and transport.

"We welcome our intense cooperation and political contacts at all levels whether be it presidents, prime ministers or ministers. We are approaching a very important date – the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries”, Janelidze said.
"Through our joint efforts we have made it possible to bring to a higher level a mutually beneficial partnership, which is based confidence”.

The meetings also focused on how to bring Georgian and Armenian youth closer to each other. The officials discussed possible youth projects to promote Georgia in Armenia and vice versa.

Discussions also touched upon global and regional challenges and the implementation of the European Union-Georgia Association Agreement.
