Georgia’s Ministry of Justice, Minister of Education and the English language centre British Council have signed a deal, envisaging free of charge English classes in six Georgian villages.

According to the agreement signed yesterday the British Council will use the Justice Ministry community centres to organize English language clubs in the villages of Orsantia, Kabali, Tsalka, Didi Jikhaishi, Vale and Chakvi.

The villages have been selected due to their location or the category of people living in them.

Orsantia is close to the occupied Abkhazia region, Kabali and Tsalka are inhabited by ethnic minorities, internally displaced people live in Didi Jikhaishi, Vale is in the border zone with Turkey and Chakvi is an area attractive for tourists.

The British Council also took the responsibility to look into the qualification of the local English teachers and organize special trainings and seminars for them without leaving the community centres.

The community centres have been selected for the project due to their modern infrastructure and equipment.

The centres offer wireless internet, computers, libraries, reading halls and meeting rooms, as well as banking and telecommunications services.

The centres also hold meetings for educational programs, like trainings against family violence and Georgian language courses for ethnic minorities.
