As of January-November 2017 a total of 39,338 cars have been imported to Georgia, shows the data from the Revenue Service of Georgia’s Finance Ministry.
Meanwhile, in the same months of 2016, the number of cars imported to Georgia reached 73,890 units.
To note, from January 2017 the excise tax on tobacco, oil products, imported vehicles and gambling has been increased.
More specifically, the taxes increased only on the import of vehicles that are six years old and older. Following the amendments in the Tax Code, the excise tax has been reduced on importing hybrid cars.
The excise tax is not the only tax car owners in Georgia will have to pay soon.
Starting from 2018, families with an annual income of more than 40,000 GEL will have to pay a property tax on cars.
Also, from January 2018 Georgia is starting mandatory vehicle inspections, testing the road-worthiness of vehicles before they are allowed to drive on roads.
The vehicle testing will be launched step-by-step and the inspection of all vehicles will take about two years.
