In a bid to curb speeding and reduce related accidents, the Government of Georgia has made it compulsory for buses, mini-buses and trucks operating in the country to have speed-limiting devices installed.

Speed-limiting devices, also known as speed limiters or speed governors, are devices used to control the top speed of vehicles. The device limits the fuel feed, thereby keeping the vehicle’s speed under control.

Trucks engaged in international traffic will be required to have speed governors from December 31, while for motor vehicles engaged in domestic traffic the same regulations will come into effect from September 2020.

The speed limit should not exceed 100 km per hour for buses and minibuses. As for the trucks in this case the speed limit will be 90 km per hour.

The government approved the relevant ordinance on August 16.
