The winners of the 2016 European Union Prize for Journalism have been revealed.
The EU Delegation to Georgia revealed the 2016 winners of the annual EU Prize for Journalism that recognised the best of local reporting at a special ceremony at Rooms Hotel last evening.
Held for the fifth time in Georgia's capital of Tbilisi, last night’s ceremony presented articles, blogs and documentary photo works in six categories.
The prizes went to the following reporters and media projects:
Best written story in print or online news media: "Mountain Girl" by Nino Lomadze for Indigo
Best audio or audio-visual story in broadcast or online news media: Audio story "Mosul-Tbilisi” by Sophiko Vasadze for GIPA’s Newscafe
Best written investigative story in print or online news media: "I Am the Church and Therefore I Am Not Obliged to Provide You Information” by Nato Gogelia for Guria News
Best investigative audio or audio-visual story in broadcast or online news media: "Agent Provocateur in Service of the Government 2” by Nino Ramishvili and Giorgi Mgeladze for Studio Monitor
Best online or print blog, opinion or column in print or online news media: "Side-by-Side With State Patriot Extremists” by Ninia Kakabadze for JamNews
Best documentary photo reflecting EU values and published in print or online news media: "Village Mokhe - Praying in the Open Air” by Giorgi Londaridze for Samkhretis Karibche

In addition, a Special Prize for Peace Journalism was awarded by the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia:
Best conflict-sensitive journalistic work contributing to confidence-building and peace in the context of armed conflicts in Georgia: "Non-stop Communication” by Gvantsa Doluashvili for JamNews
"For five years now, the EU has been supporting professional, impartial and informative journalism in Georgia with this prize. With over 122 submissions this year, we had the pleasure of selecting and awarding some exceptional works," EU Ambassador Janos Herman said at the award ceremony.
