The European Union (EU) considers Georgia a country that is best prepared for EU membership, says Slovenia’s Vice Prime Minister.
Slovenian deputy PM and Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec is on his first official visit to Tbilisi, where he is participating in the Silk Road Forum together with a business delegation.

While here, he met Georgian leaders, including Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, President Giorgi Margvelashvili and Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze.
"Georgia is a key EU partner in the region and close, reliable NATO partner”, he said, adding that impressive progress has been made recently in the approximation of the Georgian legislation to the EU standards.
Erjavec stressed that Georgia is a frontrunner of the EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative regarding implementation of its association agenda and reforms.

Meeting his Georgian counterpart Kvirikashvili, Erjavec underlined his interest to boost economic cooperation with Georgia. He stressed that the two countries already have "excellent political relations”.

The Georgian officials thanked Erjavec for Slovenia’s demonstrated support for Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations as well as the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
