An honorary consulate of Georgia opened in the coastal Slovenian city of Portoroz on October 14, during the visit of Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani to Slovenia.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on January 18, 1993.
The Georgian embassy was opened in the Republic of Slovenia in 2011, while the Georgian ambassador to the country was appointed in 2014.
FM Zalkaliani has congratulated Honorary Consul Andrej Malgai on his appointment and emphasised the importance of the event.

Zalkaliani spoke of the ‘successful cooperation’ between Georgia and Slovenia in the fields of politics, economy, tourism and culture.
[FM Zalkaliani] highlighted the role of the Honorary Consulate in deepening trade, investment and interpersonal relations [between Georgia and Slovenia],” the foreign ministry reports.
Zalkaliani will hold meetings with the country’s top officials during his official visit to Slovenia from October 14-16.
Overall, seven international agreements have been signed between the two countries so far in the areas of economic cooperation, cultural relations, and education.
