Second round of municipal elections: 26.97% voter turnout by 17pm

In six municipalities of Georgia 88,522 voters have cast their ballots in the second round of municipal elections by 17pm this afternoon.

Voter turnout was 26.97 percent at 17pm - nine hours after polling stations opened in those six districts where no candidate cleared the 50 percent threshold during the first vote on October 21, said the Central Election Commission (CEC) in its latest media update.

The voter turnout in six municipalities by 17pm was the following:

  • Kutaisi - 21,546 (14.1 percent)
  • Ozurgeti – 29,424 (47.2 percent)
  • Martvili - 10,036 (30.7 percent)
  • Kazbegi – 2,341 (44.1 percent)
  • Khashuri - 13,289 (27.1 percent)
  • Borjomi - 11,886 (44.8 percent)

The polling stations opened at 8am this morning for about 328,272 eligible voters. All the 317 polling stations will close at exactly 8 pm and the process of counting votes will begin immediately.
