Vocal performance enthusiasts in seven cities and towns in the Netherlands are learning about Georgia's rich polyphonic heritage via two of the country's celebrated choirs this month.
Within the program Made in... Georgia, voices of the Anchiskhati men's choir entertain the Dutch audiences live at performance venues.
In addition, the nine concerts feature screening of performances of the Gori Women's Choir, introduced last year to audiences in the United Kingdom and now being promoted elsewhere in Europe.
The shows are presented by the Netherlands Wind Ensemble (NBE), which first met the Georgian singers during their visit to Georgia in May this year.
Looking to discover musical artists seeking to "cherish and innovate" on the folk music legacy of the country, the NBE made recordings of their performances.
They also invited the Anchiskhati choir to sing live in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Ede, Enschede, Haarlem, the Hague and Tilburg in shows running through October 19.
Seeing all these artists at one of our concerts — virtually or live — will make you feel like you've been to Georgia yourself", said a preview from NBE.
The concerts — some of them already sold out — also feature music from prominent Georgian contemporary composer Giya Kancheli.
The Anchiskhati choir was founded by a group of music students in 1987 with the aim to "study Georgian traditional song, both well-known and lesser known examples".
Their first international tour was held in Greece in 1993, opening the way for subsequent appearances in Europe and the United States.
Anchiskhati also released their vocal performances on a record with Canada-based Deep Down Productions label.
The Gori Women's Choir dates back to 1970 when the ensemble was established by Shalva Mosidze and Alexander Kacharava of the central Georgian city Gori's School of Music.
Led by artistic director Teona Tsiramua, the choir was distinguished with Georgia's state Order of Honour title earlier this year.
