Georgian PM meets OSCE Secretary General in US

The Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili is continuing bilateral meetings with world leaders at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York, United States (US).

Cooperation between Georgia and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the situation on the occupied territories of Georgia and the role played by OSCE in the peaceful resolution of conflict were the main topics of discussions at the meeting between Kvirikashvili and OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger.

During the meeting the Prime Minister discussed the deplorable security and human rights conditions on the occupied territories of Georgia and emphasised the importance of OSCE engagement in the formats of the Geneva International Discussions and Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms.

Local self-government elections of Georgia was also discussed at the meeting. Kvirikashvili thanked the OSCE Secretary General for the involvement of the ODIHR [the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights] monitoring mission in the election monitoring mission, which will maximize the level of transparency of the electoral environment.

The Prime Minister congratulated Thomas Greminger on his appointment to the post of OSCE Secretary General and wished him success in his future endeavors.
