A group of sommeliers from the United States (US) is visiting Georgia for one week to learn more about the country’s rich wine history and culture.

Over the course of the week the guests will visit local wine-producing companies in various regions of Georgia such as Kartli, Imereti, Samegrelo and Kakheti, where they will be introduced to Georgian winemaking traditions and technologies.

A sommelier from a New York restaurant commented on Georgia’s ancient and traditional wine-making technologies.

Despite the fact that I had already tasted 30 Georgian wines in New York, I tasted many new wines in Georgia, for example Aladasturi in Imereti. I could not believe that I was drinking such wine. I have never tasted such a taste, ever”, he said.

The US is one of the growing export markets for Georgian wines.

During the first six months of 2017, Georgia exported 176,274 bottles of wine to the US, which was 43 percent more compared to the same period of 2016.
