"Georgia is God’s gift and I am looking forward to the time when Georgia and the Republic of Korea will work together.”

This was what chairman of Korea's National Assembly Chung Ui-hwa said after meeting with Georgia’s Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili in Tbilisi today.

Future prospects for cooperation between Korea and Georgia were actively discussed by the two high officials.

Ui-hwa hoped Georgia would attract the attention of the whole world and become an exemplary country for reform, democracy and business. He also expressed readiness to provide assistance to Georgia and share Korea’s experience with Georgia as it progressed on its path of reform and development.

Korea has achieved industrial development in the shortest period of time thanks to assistance from other countries. Now we will try to share this assistance with others,” said Ui-Hwa.

Meanwhile Usupashvili spoke about the problems that had touched both countries – problems with their northern borders.

We see a disturbing development of North Korea's aggressive actions in the region and we show solidarity to the Korean people. We support the Korean people in resolving these problems,” said Usupashvili.
Also, Korea supports Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty at the international level and we will always feel this support,” said the Georgian high official.
Korea is the fourth ranked country in Asia in terms of its developed economy … and we are pleased the relations between our countries are increasingly deepening at the political level. We, both countries, are fighting for peace and stability,” he added.

At the meeting Usupashvili noted a billion-dollar investment by Korea had recently launched in Georgia’s energy sector and Georgia was very grateful for this as it encouraged economic development.

Meanwhile, also today Parliament of Georgia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Korea's National Assembly to forge closer ties.
