Education system should be based on progress, development and aspirations of free and happy individuals, says Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

Georgia is beginning to launch a reform of the education system - one of the key components of the Four Point Plan of the Government.

PM Kvirikashvili attended as Education Minister Aleksandre Jejelava presented the reform plan in front of Cabinet of Ministers, diplomatic corps, NGOs, university professors and teachers today.

"Education is core to development and progress in any country. Overall advancement without a significant development of the education system will not be achieved in Georgia,” Kvirikashvili said.
"Solution to all the problems challenging us today is embodied in the education system,” he noted, adding this was why the Government attached much importance to this reform.
"On behalf of the entire Government, our political and parliamentary team, I wish to express our full support to the reform agenda that is being launched,” he said.

The PM stressed that the reform would see education in Georgia be based on advanced technologies, access to superior quality education be increased in rural areas of the country, professional development of teachers and healthy life style become a priority.

Kvirikashvili said that the ambitious plan of his Government was to transform Georgia into a regional hub of higher education, science and research.

He stressed the importance of vocational education as well and said: "We should have our attitude towards vocational education and we have thus chosen the dual education model, which is regarded as the best model throughout the world. Higher education will be oriented towards the needs of rapid development in the country.”

"Georgia will transform into a regional hub of science, research and education. We have all the resources and potential to materialise this goal.”

He said he strongly believed the new reform would create solid grounds "for the most positive, outstanding changes in our country, thus benefiting each and every person living in Georgia”.

"It will give rise to freedom, progress and rapid development in our country,” he said.
