A new walking and cycling route officially opened in Tbilisi allowing riders and pedestrians to safely enjoy the shores of Lisi Lake - one of the most beautiful recreational areas in Georgia’s capital.

The three kilometre path circumnavigates Lisi Lake and encourages people to get outdoors and enjoy a healthier lifestyle, said Tbilisi Mayor Davit Narmania at today’s official opening of the new track.

Lisi Lake is located a short drive from the city centre in the bustling Saburtalo district. The area is used by hundreds of people in the summer and on weekends.

Narmania said Tbilisi City Hall and the Tbilisi Development Fund jointly contributed more than a million GEL to create the new path.

The circular path around the lake measured just over three kilometres. About 100 lamp posts were installed at intervals around the track to illuminate it when needed. Ten rubbish bins were also strategically placed around the path.

Special signs were painted on the pavement to guide users around the path safely.

The new path around Lisi Lake was part of the Government’s New Tiflis Project, of which one part was to develop existing and create new recreational zones in Tbilisi.

On another note, in May this year Tbilisi City Hall announced a new cycling path had been planned for several areas in Tbilisi including Mziuri Park – another popular recreational space on Chavchavadze Ave in the central city.
